Men's Tennis Tops CUW To Remain Undefeated In NACC Play

Glendale, Wis. - Heading into Sunday's action, there were only two men's tennis teams in the Northern Collegiate Athletics Conference (NACC) that were undefeated in conference play: Illinois Tech and Concordia Wisconsin. After the Sunday afternoon match between the two schools was over, the Scarlet Hawks came away as the lone undefeated team in the NACC, defeating the Falcons 7-2. The Scarlet Hawks improved to 4-0 in conference play, and to 7-9 overall. The Falcons dropped to 2-1 in NACC play and 6-6 overall.

The Scarlet Hawks overcame a 2-1 deficit after doubles play by taking all six singles matches to secure the victory.

Doubles Play (CUW 2 - Illinois Tech 1)
The Scarlet Hawks fell 1-0 early when Jordan Lauer and Avneet Singh were defeated in their number two doubles match, 4-8. But Pol Dueso Guell and Nabil Fawaz won their number three doubles match 8-4 to even doubles play at 1-1. The Falcons were able to retake the match lead 2-1, however, after the Scarlet Hawks' number one doubles team of Alann Torres and Davis Housman were defeated 6-8.

Singles Play (Illinois Tech 6 - CUW 0)
Illinois Tech responded to the doubles contest loss by taking all six singles matches against the Falcons. Fawaz won his number three singles match 6-1, 6-2 to pull even with the Falcons at 2-2. Moments later, Illinois Tech's Eduardo Lopez won this number five singles match 6-3, 6-1 to take their first match lead at 3-2. Lauer followed with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the number six singles match. Dueso Guell and Housman each won in straight sets in their number four and number two singles matches respectively, with Dueso Guell prevailing 6-3, 6-2 and Housman winning 6-4, 6-1. With the overall match victory already secured, the only remaining drama was the completion of the number one singles match between Torres and CUW's Landon Sather. Torres dropped the first set 4-6, before winning set two 7-5 and winning the set three tie-breaker 1-0 (10-6).
