Women's Tennis Battles In Season-Opener

Chicago, Ill. - Although they did not walk away with the match victory, the Illinois Tech women's tennis team battled in their season-opening match against non-conference foe Wartburg at the XS Tennis Center. The Knights eventually secured the 5-2 match victory, but not before some spirited effort from the Scarlet Hawks. Illinois Tech starts the season 0-1. The Knights are 1-1.

The match was the first for the Scarlet Hawks under the new NCAA Divsion III scoring rules for the 2024-25 season. Doubles play now counts as one decision, with a single 6-point set. And match victory is based on a 7-point system, with the first team to 4 points(4 match victories) declared the winner.

For the Scarlet Hawks, first-year player Martyna Kalinowska earned her first NCAA singles victory in her first collegiate match as the Scarlet Hawks number one singles player. Paige Geiger battled back after dropping her first set in the number three singles to win her first singles match of the season.
