Milwaukee, Wis. - The Illinois Tech women's tennis team, looking to improve to 2-0 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play, traveled north to Milwaukee Wednesday night to face conference foe Milwaukee School of Engineering. In a very close battle, the Raiders edged the Scarlet Hawks 4-3. The Hawks fall to 1-3 on the season, and 1-1 in NACC play. The Raiders improved to 2-2 overall, and 2-0 in conference.
The doubles competition proved to be the one point to propel the Raiders to victory. The Hawks and Raiders split the number one and number three doubles matches, with MSOE taking doubles one and Illinois Tech taking doubles three. However, the Raiders edged the Hawks in doubles two by the narrowest of margins, 7-6.

The number three doubles team of
Ashley Dame and
Rhea Karumuru won their match 6-4. After the Hawks' number one team of
Martyna Kalinowska and
Hannah Markiewicz dropped their match 2-6, it was up to the number two doubles team of
Paige Geiger and
Angelica Conwell to pull out the doubles point for the Hawks. In a close battle, Geiger and Conwell lost 6-7.
Singles Play - MSOE 3 - Illinois Tech 3 (3 points awarded to each team)
The Hawks were victorious in their number 1, 2, and 4 singles matches, but lost in their number 3, 5 and 6 matches. First-year Kalinowska continued her strong play, winning her match 6-2, 6-0. Markiewicz followed in the number two match with a 2-6, 6-3, 2-1 victory. Dame rounded out the singles match victories for the Hawks with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the number four match. In the other matches, Geiger lost 2-6, 1-6 in the number three singles, Conwell fell 1-6, 3-6 in the number five singles, and Karumuru dropped her number six match 2-6, 3-6.Â
