Holland, Mich. - After tying the match late on a penalty kick goal, the Illinois Tech women's soccer team surrendered the game-winning goal just 26 seconds later, as the Scarlet Hawk fell to host Hope College in heartbreak fashion 2-1 Saturday afternoon in Michigan. The Flying Dutch end the Scarlet Hawks three-game winning streak. The Hawks fall to 3-2-0 on the season. The Flying Dutch improve to 2-2-1.

How It Happened
  • After a scoreless first half and a defensive battle into the second half, the Flying Dutch broke through first at 74:56, when Ainsley Harris was taken down inside the penalty area after eluding her defender. Hope's Carley Wagasky scored on the ensuing penalty kick, with the ball eluding the outstretched hands of a diving Scarlet Hawks goalkeeper Hailey Flannagan and slipping by inside the left post.
  • With the less than three minutes remaining, the Scarlet Hawks continued to pressure inside the Hope zone, and were finally rewarded for their efforts when Caitie Chismarich drew a foul inside the Hope penalty area at 87:40. On the ensuring penalty kick, Flying Dutch goalkeeper Kendall Robertson dove to her right while the Scarlet Hawks Lucy Jorjorian shot to the left side to even the score at 1-1.
  • The Flying Dutch controlled the ball on the kickoff after the Illinois Tech penalty kick goal. With Hope pressing inside the zone, the Hawks attempted several clear attempts but were unable to get the ball up field. Hope capitalized, with the Flying Dutch's Claudie Folkert pushing a through ball into the box, where her teammate Lina Rea took the pass, split two converging defenders and slipped the ball past Flannagan for the game-winning goal at 88:06.
