Madison, Wis. – Traveling to Wisconsin to begin Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play, the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks women's soccer team took on the Edgewood College Eagles. Entering the contest, the Hawks looked to bounce back in the win column while the Eagles looked to keep their undefeated streak alive. Following the 90 minutes of action, it was the Hawks (4-2, 1-0) who came out on top on the NACC opener with a 6-0 victory over the Eagles (5-1-1, 0-1). Caitie Chismarich led the Hawks offense with a stellar offensive performance, recording a hat-trick with the Hawks first three goals, plus an assist to lead the Hawks to victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
Wasting absolutely no time, Caitie Chismarich got the Hawks on the board in the 3rd minute. Following an Amelia Moseman shot in which the Eagles goalkeeper saved, her clearance went straight to Chismarich who was about 25 yards out from goal. Chismarich immediately started dribbling straight towards goal before placing a right-footed shot into the lower right corner for her first goal of the game.
-
Chismarich then doubled the Hawks lead in the 26th minute with her second goal. With the Eagles looking to clear the ball out of their defense, Jillian Oligschlaeger intercepted a pass, dribbled down the sideline, and passed the ball to Chismarich at the top of the 18-yard box. With a defender on her, Chismarich was able to create just enough space to rip off a right footed shot from just outside the 18-yard box. Chismarich's shot would initially go straight to the Eagles goalkeeper, but she was unable to get a good grip on the ball as it slipped through and rolled into the back of the net.
-
In the 66th minute of action, Chismarich scored her third of the game. Fighting off an Eagle defender to gain possession of the ball about 20 yards out from goal, Chismarich, juked past two defenders to run into open space inside the 18-yard box. Completely defenseless, Chismarich sent a left-footed shot low on the ground, straight underneath the diving Eagles goalkeeper.
-
Five minutes later, Allison Murray scored off a Chismarich assist. With the ball bouncing around the 18-yard box, Chismarich gained possession and laid the ball back towards the top of the box to an open Murray. Murray took a settling touch before ripping off a right-footed shot to the center of the net, just under the cross bar, giving the Hawks a 4-0 lead.
-
Defender Mary Frampton then scored in the 73rd minute for the Hawks. After the Hawks earned a free kick near the sideline about 20 yards out from goal, the ball would get sent in the to top of the 6-yard box. The Eagles goalkeeper would get a hand on it, but wasn't able to control the ball as it rolled directly to the foot of Frampton. Taking a one-touch shot, Frampton was able to slide the ball past multiple Eagles defenders and into the goal.
-
The final goal of the game came in the 86th minute off the foot of Kaitlyn Walsh. Receiving a pass inside the 18-yard box, Walsh fought to gain control of the ball with two defenders on her. Walsh was then able to turn and rip off a shot, scoring and sealing the Hawks victory.
