Chicago, Ill. - After dropping their last two conference matches by the slimmest of margins, the Illinois Tech women's tennis team was looking to get back in the win column Tuesday night in their match against Concordia Chicago at the XS Tennis Center. The Scarlet Hawks took the doubles contest 2-1 for the doubles point, and then went 4-2 in singles play to secure the 5-2 match victory over the Cougars. The Scarlet Hawks improved to 2-2 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play, and 2-4 overall. The Cougars dropped to 2-2 in conference and 2-3 overall.
Doubles Play - Illinois Tech 2 - Concordia Chicago 1 (Illinois Tech earns 1 doubles point)
The Scarlet Hawks number one doubles team of
Martyna Kalinowska and
Hannah Markiewicz won their match 6-3. The pair improved to 2-2 in conference doubles play with the win.
Paige Geiger and
Angelica Conwell lost in the number two doubles match against the Cougars 1-6, but
Rhea Karumuru and
Ashley Dame took the number three doubles match 6-1 to earn the Scarlet Hawks the doubles competition point. For Karumuru and Dame, it was their second doubles match victory in their last three conference matches.
Singles Play - Illinois Tech 4 - Concordia Chicago 2 (Illinois Tech earns 4 singles points to secure the match victory)
Kalinowska continued her winning ways in singles competition, winning 6-2, 6-2 in the number one singles match to move her conference singles performance to 4-0. Markiewicz claimed a clean sweep in her number two singles match, going 6-0, 6-0 to improve her NACC singles record to 3-1. Also earning a clean sweep in singles play was Dame, winning 6-0, 6-0 in her number four singles match. Dame also extended her unbeaten streak in conference singles play to 4-0. Karumuru won her number six singles match 6-3, 6-4, earning her first career NACC singles victory in competition. In the number five singles competition, Conwell dropped a hard-fought match, falling 1-6, 7-6(7-1), 6-10. Geiger battled but lost in her number three singles match 3-6, 3-6.
