Chicago, Ill. – Hosting the Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers, the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks women's soccer team looked to continue where they left off Thursday night with another victory on their home soil before hitting the road for their next four matches. Out-shooting their non-conference opponent by 12 shots, the Hawks (2-1) placed two in the back of the net to seal a 2-0 victory over the Fightin' Engineers (0-3) Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
Building up from the back, the Hawks first goal came in the 37th minute. With the Fightin' Engineers holding a strong defense, the Hawks were forced to pass around and look for gaps to get offense going. Starting with Gabriella Baltes in the Hawks defensive half, Baltes passed the ball over to Mary Frampton who pushed the ball up to Jillian Oligschlaeger who received the ball just at half-field on the sideline. Oligschlaeger took a settling touch before sending a pass down the sideline. Eva Narvarte received the ball and raced past her defender, cutting inside into the 18-yard box. With another defender closing in, Narvarte laid the ball off to a wide-open Lucy Jorjorian at the top of the box. From almost dead-center at the top of the 18-yard box, Jorjorian took a one-touch, right footed shot towards the net. The shot sailed through the air and went in between the crossbar and the jumping Fightin' Engineer goalkeeper, straight into the back of the net, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Coming out of halftime, the Hawks looked to extend their lead, wasting hardly any time before finding the back of the net for the second time. From a Fightin' Engineer throw-in in their own defensive half, the Hawks gained possession when Caitie Chismarich picked up the loose ball about 30 yards out from goal. With a defender closing in on her from behind, Chismarich played a splitting ball to Kayla Smith. Smith took a touch into the box before playing a low, driven cross straight in front of goal about 4-yards out. The Fightin' Engineer goalkeeper would get a hand on the ball, pushing it back further into the box, but unfortunately for her, the ball went straight to the feet of Amelia Moseman. With two Fightin' Engineer defenders crashing in on her, Moseman one-touch shot the ball with her left into the back of the net, giving the Hawks their 2-0 lead in the 56th minute.
