Women's Soccer Shuts Down MSOE and Prevails on Late Vathulya Goal

Chicago, Ill —Women's Soccer(14-1-1, 10-0-0) defeated Milwaukee School of Engineering (10-5-2, 8-1-1) 1-0 on Saturday at Stuart Field, with a late second-half goal securing the win. Illinois Tech will continue to control its own destiny as with the win they maintain 1st place in the NACC standings and will look to secure home field advantage throughout the conference tournament this coming week. 

The match commenced with the Scarlet Hawks setting an aggressive tone, earning a corner kick within the first three minutes. Despite numerous offensive efforts, including shots from Kayla Smith, Gabriella Baltes, and Kayla Thomas, MSOE's goalkeeper Page Sanchez managed several critical saves to keep the home team from capitalizing on their opportunities. Illinois Tech dominated possession, taking multiple shots and corners throughout the half but were unable to find the back of the net.

The period closed with Illinois Tech maintaining pressure, highlighted by a late corner kick in the 41st minute, but the score remained level at 0-0 as the teams headed into the break.

The second half began with Illinois Tech maintaining offensive pressure from the outset. Grace Yager initiated an attack with a shot in the 47th minute, followed by a series of corner kicks and attempts on goal from Allison Murray and Mary Frampton. Despite their efforts, Page Sanchez of MSOE made crucial saves to keep the score level once again.

Illinois Tech continued to press, with Taylor Hernandez testing Sanchez multiple times. The breakthrough finally came in the 85th minute when bouncing ball reached Tvesa Vathulya who found the back of the net, securing a lead for Illinois Tech. The period concluded with Illinois Tech ahead 1-0, successfully maintaining their advantage until the final whistle.
