Hilton Head Island, S.C. - The Illinois Tech men's tennis team, searching for their first victory since February 1st, traveled to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina to begin their spring break trip with a Monday afternoon match against The College of Wooster. The Scarlet Hawks got back on the win side, downing the Fighting Scots 6-1. The Scarlet Hawks improved to 3-6 on the season. The Fighting Scots fell to 3-2.
Sophomore
Pol Dueso Guell has won five of his last six singles matches after winning in the number three singles match on Monday. Guell is now 7-2 on singles play for the season.
In doubles play, Illinois Tech took two of three matches to gain the sole double point. The number one doubles team of
Avneet Singh and
Alexander Feher won their match 6-4, the first double match victory on the season for Singh and Feher. Guell and doubles partner
Eduardo Lopez won their number three match 6-3. In the number two doubles match,
Pedro Caroa-Accino Roca and
Hozumi Tada lost their match 7-5.
In singles play, the Scarlet Hawks won five of six matches. Feher won his number two singles match 7-6 (7-4), 6-3. Dueso Guell won his number three singles match 6-2, 6-3. Tada won the number four singles match in a third set tiebreaker, dropping the first set 5-7 before winning set two 6-1 and the third set tie-breaker 1-0 (10-5). For Tada, it was his second singles match victory in a row. Lopez was a 6-2, 6-3 winner in the number five singles match, while
Tejas Sheth won his number six singles match 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6). Sheth has won two of his three singles matches on the season. The only loss in singles play for the Hawks was in the number one singles match, where Roca lost a hard-fought battle against the Fighting Scots' Anthony VanOyen 6-4, 3-6, 0-1 (5-10).
