Isabelle Niebler added another, but it wasn't enough for Illinois Tech women's lacrosse as host MSOE scored eight goals in the opening quarter en route to their 16-4 victory in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play Saturday afternoon. The Scarlet Hawks dropped to 0-2 in conference play. The Raiders improved to 1-1.
The Hawks played the match with only 10 active players including goalkeeper
Mercy Godfrey, as opposed to the normal 12 starters on the field.
Martinez scored all three of her goals in a 3:17 span in the second quarter. She scored her first on an unassisted tally at 11:57. She scored again at 9:26 on a feed from Niebler. She capped off her scoring 46 seconds later when she scored on a feed from
Iona Pettigrew. Martinez now has 27 goals on the season to lead the Scarlet Hawks. Martinez also won 7 draw controls.
Niebler scored her 6th goal of the season at 13:02 of the final quarter on an unattended tally. Niebler is second on the team in scoring with 9 points on 6 goals and 3 assists. Niebler added 4 ground balls and 1 caused turnover.
Victoria Akirtava had 3 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers.
In addition to her 13 saves as the netminder, Godfrey led the team with 3 caused turnovers.
MSOE's Lilly Johnson led all scorers with 7 goals.
