Chicago, Ill.— After local storms kept them off the field Wednesday night, the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks welcomed the Falcons of Concordia University Wisconsin for a Thursday evening showdown at Stuart Field. Despite a six-goal effort from Antonia Martinez, the Hawks were unable to overcome Concordia's high-powered offense in a 19-6 loss in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play. Illinois Tech fell to 0-3 in conference action, while the Falcons improved to 2-1.
Martinez accounted for all of the Hawks' scoring, opening the game with her first goal at 13:25. Through the next four quarters, she was able to convert 6 of her 7 shots, boosting her season total to 35 goals. She also collected 5 ground balls, caused 2 turnovers and won 8 draw controls in a strong all-around performance.
Goalkeeper Mercy Godfrey delivered a strong performance as well recording 16 saves, including several key stops in the second half to slow Concordia's momentum. Iona Pettigrew and Isabelle Niebler each picked up two ground balls and Pettigrew caused two turnovers.
Altogether, the Scarlet Hawks found success on clears, successfully completing 7-of-8 attempts.
CUW's Katelyn Cardinale led all scorers with 7 goals.
