Chicago, Ill. - Due to some schedule changes, the Illinois Tech men's tennis team had the unusual task of playing back to back matches during the week, when they hosted Lakeland University Thursday night and then hosted Edgewood College 16 hours later on Friday morning at the XS Tennis Center. The Scarlet Hawks took care of business, defeating Lakeland 7-0 Thursday night before dispensing Edgewood 7-0 on Friday.
With the pair of wins, the Scarlet Hawks moved to .500 at 8-8 overall, and their win over Edgewood gave the Hawks a 3-1 record in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play with only two conference matches remaining during the regular season. Illinois Tech has now won four matches in a row and currently reside in second place in the NACC.
The 7-0 match victory against Lakeland on Thursday night was technically considered a non-conference match, as the Muskies are taking a year off from conference-designated competition while they rebuild their program. The 7-0 match victory against Edgewood was a regular conference match.
Eduardo Lopez extended his number five singles match win streak to seven with his wins over Lakeland and Edgewood. He has also won four of his last five number three doubles matches with partner
Pol Dueso Guell.
Guell has now won six consecutive number three singles matches, dating back to the Hawks match against Stevenson University on March 20th. He has also won five of his last six number three doubles matches, primarily with doubles partner
Eduardo Lopez, with the exception of the doubles match at Wisconsin Lutheran, in which he played with
Tejas Sheth.
Alexander Feher has won five of his last six number two singles matches, and has won back-to-back number one doubles matches, along with partner
Avneet Singh, for the first time this season.
Singh has put together a four-match winning streak in number six singles play to go along with the two-match winning streak in number one doubles play with Feher.
Pedro Caroa-Accino Roca has also won five of his last six number one singles matches, and he and number two doubles partner
Hozumi Tada have won six consecutive doubles matches.
In addition to his six consecutive number two doubles match victories with Roca, Tada has put together a strong run in the number four singles position, winning his last six matches and eight of his last nine.
