Men's Soccer Unable To Convert Chances In Loss To St. Norbert

Chicago, Ill. — Illinois Tech men's soccer fell to St. Norbert College with a 3-1 loss at Stuart Field on Saturday afternoon, despite outshooting the visitors 11-8.

Illinois Tech fell to 3-4-0 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play following the defeat. St. Norbert moved to 4-4-0 overall and 2-0-0 in conference action with the victory.

In the first half, St. Norbert capitalized on an early opportunity, with Dominic Lagona scoring a penalty kick goal in the 29th minute to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The Scarlet Hawks had several chances to respond, including a shot by Christian Garcia at the 6:09 mark and Mateo Secaira at 15:45, but both attempts failed to hit the target. The home team also earned multiple corner kicks, yet was unable to convert them into scoring opportunities. The Hawks were never able to get in a rythm offensively in a first half marked by frequent fouls, with the Scarlet Hawks committing nine in the opening frame.

The second half began with the Green Knights maintaining their lead, with Kevin Ramirez scoring a goal in the 51st minute to put them up 2-0. The Scarlet Hawks' Mateo Secaira had a chance to respond with a shot on goal shortly after but was denied by St. Norbert's goalkeeper Jackson Kiszka. Ramirez struck again in the 75th minute, assisted by a Will Swicionis throw-in, extending the Green Knights' advantage to 3-0. The Scarlet Hawks continued to press forward and were finally rewarded when Carson Floyd found the back of the net in the 89th minute, assisted by Pieros Siimitras, to close the gap to 3-1. Despite the late goal, St. Norbert secured the victory with a final score of 3-1.
