Men's Soccer Battles To A Draw At Elmhurst

Elmhurst, Ill. — Illinois Tech men's soccer, looking to snap a four-game losing streak, traveled to Elmhurst University for a non-conference matchup Monday night.   The Scarlet Hawks battled to a 1-1 draw at Langhorst Field as both teams recorded 10 shots.

Illinois Tech holds a record of 3-4-1 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play. Elmhurst stands at 3-5-2 overall following the match.

Illinois Tech took an early lead against Elmhurst in the first half with a goal by Cal Graham in the 18th minute, assisted by Paul Balea. The half saw Illinois Tech committing multiple fouls, including three by Christian Garcia and Adrian Cogolludo. Both goalkeepers were active, with Aakash Nagarahalli saving a shot from Victor Lewicki in the opening minutes and David Rodriguez making crucial saves later in the half. 

The second half between Illinois Tech and Elmhurst began with both teams struggling to maintain possession, highlighted by multiple offside calls against the Scarlet Hawks at the 47:35 and 49:25 marks. Elmhurst opened the scoring in the 63rd minute with a goal from Klaus Gartner, leveling the match at 1-1. Illinois Tech applied pressure with several attempts on goal, including a shot by Tomas Rebelatto that was saved by Elmhurst's Niyen Ruffin in the 74th minute and another by Graham that hit the top woodwork. Despite continued efforts, including a notable save by Nagarahalli on a shot from Isaac Puchalla in the 89th minute, the game concluded in a 1-1 draw.
