Men's Basketball Drop Back and Forth Game to Edgewood

Chicago, Ill — Illinois Tech Men's Basketball faced a heartbreaker at Keating Sports Center, narrowly edged out by Edgewood with a final score of 74-73 on Saturday. Despite a standout performance at the charity stripe, hitting 28 of 37 free throws, the Scarlet Hawks couldn't quite close out the win against Edgewood.  Currently, Illinois Tech holds a 5-11 overall record and stands 3-6 in NACC play, while Edgewood's record is 2-13 overall and 2-7 in the conference.

How It Happened

The first half saw Edgewood taking the reins early, closing the half with a 39-30 lead. Edgewood's Hunter Hardyman was a force to be reckoned with, scoring 20 first Half points, including a pivotal 3-pointer at 14:49. Garrison Carter kept Illinois Tech in the hunt with a series of effective layups. Edgewood's dominance on the boards, grabbing 23 rebounds to Illinois Tech's 17, allowed them to maintain their edge.

The second half began with a 9-2 Illinois Tech run cutting the lead down to four. Isaiah Dudley  continued to lead the Illinois Tech run as he continued to put himself on the free throw line and then brought the Keating crowd to its feet with a powerful slam dunk which propelled the Hawks ahead.  Carter continued to shine as well , nailing a crucial three-pointer at 8:39 to give the Scarlet Hawks a 59-49 lead. However, Edgewood would respond with a run of their own tying the game up with Zane Willadsen free throws. In the dying seconds, Jonah Anderson clinched the game for Edgewood with two decisive free throws, sealing the 74-73 victory for the Eagles.
