Men's Basketball Can't Overcome First Half Deficit - Fall At Benedictine

Lisle, Ill. — Illinois Tech men's basketball(5-12, 3-7 NACC) couldn't overcome a challenging first half of basketball at Benedictine Wednesday night, falling to the Eagles 68-49 at the Rice Center. The Hawks struggled to counter Benedictine's 26 points off turnovers, compared to their own eight.

With this matchup, Illinois Tech's record stands at 5-12 overall and 3-7 in NACC play, while Benedictine moves to 5-11 overall and 4-5 in the conference.

How It Happened

The game kicked off with both teams trading baskets, but it was Benedictine's Brandon McCoy and Noah Mason who helped push their team to a 15-8 lead. Mason's three-pointer at the 13:19 mark gave the Eagles an early advantage. The Scarlet Hawks' Garrison Carter and Bryce Shoto tried to keep it close, but a 23-8 run by Benedictine, highlighted by Connor Glasgow's fast-break three at 9:26, widened the gap. The first half wrapped up with Benedictine ahead 44-22, thanks to their sharp shooting and commanding rebounding.

In the second half, Benedictine kept their momentum despite Illinois Tech's attempts to rally. Ryan Sammons kicked off the scoring with a fast-break layup at 18:11, followed by Glasgow's layup and free throw at 4:39. Isaiah Dudley and Carter fought back with layups and a three-pointer, but the Scarlet Hawks couldn't overcome turnovers. Benedictine's dominance on the boards, led by McCoy and Ryan Tucker, sealed the 68-49 victory.
