Swimming & Diving Earn Road Split At Carthage

Kenosha, Wis. - Illinois Tech swimming and diving, looking to build off their men's and women's team's sweeps last week against North Central College, traveled to Carthage College on Saturday afternoon for a dual meet against the Firebirds. With a final event victory in the men's 400 yard freestyle relay, the Scarlet Hawks were able to salvage a split, winning the men's competition 156.50 - 142.50, while dropping the women's competition 207-87.

Men's swimming & diving improved to 5-1 in dual meet competition. The women's team fell to 2-4 in dual meets.

Women's Meet Summary

Illinois Tech demonstrated strong performances at the Carthage meet, highlighted by several top finishes. Kayla Matsumoto secured victories in both the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.57 and the 200-yard backstroke clocking in at 2:16.47. Claire Van Biljon also delivered impressive results, winning the 50-yard freestyle in 24.50 and the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00.78. The relay teams showcased depth, with the Scarlet Hawks A squad placing second in the women's 200-yard medley relay and first in the 400-yard freestyle relay, posting a time of 3:43.75.

Taryn Oser contributed to Illinois Tech's success with notable performances, taking second in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:11.95 and first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:34.29. Elishka Janout earned a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, touching in at 57.57, and third in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:21.25. Kristen Hampton also stood out, placing third in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:04.87 and third in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:36.73. These individual efforts underscored the Scarlet Hawks' competitive presence throughout the meet.

Men's Meet Summary

Illinois Tech demonstrated a strong performance, securing multiple first-place finishes. Eli Riegler led the team in the 1000-yard freestyle and also claimed second in the 500-yard freestyle. Don Rose excelled with victories in both the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly, contributing significantly to the team's overall success. Giorgio Turchetti added depth by winning the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle.

Zeng Wye Liew was pivotal in the breaststroke events, clinching the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard breaststroke. Aidan Chance captured the 100-yard backstroke and later secured a win in the 200-yard backstroke. The Scarlet Hawks' Relay A team, comprising Rose, Chance, Ean Arbogast, and Turchetti, topped the 400-yard freestyle relay, highlighting the team's depth and collaborative strength.
