Men's Soccer Surrenders Late Goal and Settles for Tie Verse First Place Muskies

Chicago, Ill — Men's Soccer came out with a tie against Lakeland 3-3 on Wednesday. The teams each finished with 16 shots, while the Scarlet Hawks put 11 attempts on goal and Lakeland had seven. The Scarlet Hawks are now 6-4-2 overall and 3-2-2 in conference play. Lakeland is 10-3-2 overall and 4-1-2 in conference play.

How It Happened

Junior Pineda-Alcala put the Scarlet Hawks ahead at 9:55, giving Illinois Tech a 1-0 lead after Lakeland had recorded the first shot of the half. Lakeland tied it at 15:29 on Victor Aguirre's goal, then added a corner kick and an Isai Gil shot before the Scarlet Hawks answered with a stretch of pressure that included two corners, a Pineda-Alcala shot saved by Ali Faiad and a Paul Balea attempt also stopped by Faiad. Illinois Tech kept pushing later in the half, with Pineda-Alcala having a shot saved by the team and Nick Skiba adding another attempt before Lakeland came back with two shots in the 33rd and 34th minutes. The closing minutes included several fouls and a Lakeland yellow card, while Darii Kishchak and Theo Balea each put shots on frame for Illinois Tech as the half ended tied 1-1.

David Rodriguez kept the match at 1-1 early in the second half, saving Isai Gil's shot at 47:38 during a Lakeland stretch that included two shots and a corner. Pineda-Alcala put Illinois Tech in front at 57:30, and after a foul-heavy stretch, the Scarlet Hawks generated three shots and a corner from 68:36 to 73:26 before Kishchak scored from Nick Skiba at 74:20 to make it 3-1. Lakeland answered through Woodlens Frederic at 79:20 off an assist from Austin Eigenberger-Vahsholtz, then pressed late with shots from Gil and Jordan Davis-Troller before Frederic scored again at 88:36 to tie it at 3-3. Illinois Tech earned a corner at 88:52 and had a Kishchak shot at 89:21, but Lakeland had the final chance with Victor Aguirre's shot saved by Rodriguez at 90:00 as the match finished 3-3.
