Raiders Quick Start to Much for Women's Basketball

Milwaukee, Wis — Illinois Tech faced a tough matchup against Milwaukee School of Engineering, falling 75-43 at the Kern Center. The home team dominated the boards with a 43-22 rebounding advantage.  Illinois Tech's record stands at 2-19 overall and 1-13 in NACC play, while MSOE improves to 15-5 overall and 10-3 in the conference.

How it Happened 

The game started competitively with both Illinois Tech and MSOE trading baskets. Abigail Marino hit a 3-pointer, assisted by Berit Rusing, tying the game at 3-3 with 7:30 on the clock. However, MSOE gained momentum with a 7-0 run, capped by a fastbreak 3-pointer from Lana Kerley at 6:28. Rusing's two free throws at 5:44 brought the score closer, but MSOE quickly responded with a jumper from Kerley. Despite continued efforts, MSOE extended their lead, highlighted by a fastbreak layup from Emily Troia at 0:51, ending the quarter with Illinois Tech trailing 25-11.

In the second quarter, MSOE widened their lead, outscoring Illinois Tech 19-12. Notable contributions for Illinois Tech included a jumper by Chloe Churilla at 9:00 and a 3-pointer from Camden Joko at 5:26, assisted by Morgan Applewhite. MSOE capitalized on free throws, with Elly Kohl adding two points from the line at 4:02. Aleah Butterbrodt helped MSOE with a layup and four successful free throws, pushing the score to 44-21 at 0:46. Rusing's buzzer-beater jumper closed the quarter at 44-23.

The third quarter saw Mahima Chokshi of MSOE open with a 3-pointer at 9:47, extending their lead. Illinois Tech's Grace Goodnough countered with a 3-pointer, assisted by Joko, at 7:06, making it 51-26. MSOE's Shelby Glodowski added three points at 3:31, widening the gap further. The quarter wrapped up with Kohl's 3-pointer at 00:10, setting the score at 61-33.

MSOE maintained their lead in the final quarter, outscoring the Scarlet Hawks 14-10. Gina Falls contributed a three-point play early in the quarter. Marino responded with a layup for Illinois Tech at 8:43, but MSOE continued to leverage defensive rebounds to their advantage. Emily Ross sealed the victory for the home team with a 3-pointer at the 19-second mark, assisted by Filippa Niamj. Goodnough scored Illinois Tech's final basket with four seconds left, but MSOE's lead was insurmountable.
