Women's Tennis Grabs Road Win At North Park

Chicago, Ill. — Illinois Tech women's tennis team soared to a 5-2 victory over North Park University on Wednesday at River Park Courts. The Scarlet Hawks clinched the win by taking four of the six singles matches and two of the three doubles matches.

"It was a much needed win" said Head Coach Jack Lunn.

After going 8-1 during the fall portion of their schedule, including going 8-0 during the conference regular season, the women's team had lost their first six matches in 2026 until Wednesday night's win at North Park.

How It Happened

Illinois Tech kicked things off by securing the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Maia Lecuona Ramos and Maddalena Dumangane prevailed 7-5 against North Park's Jessica Dudas and Emilia Sand at the No. 2 spot. Angelica Conwell and Paige Geiger sealed the point for the Scarlet Hawks with a commanding 6-1 victory over Holly Chleboun and Nicasia Murphy at No. 3 doubles. The Vikings managed to snag a win at No. 1 doubles, where Alexandra Pugachova and Thea Gifvars edged out Martyna Kalinowska and Thea Salcedo, 7-5.

In singles play, Illinois Tech extended their lead with a string of impressive wins. Dumangane added a point at No. 2 singles, defeating Sand 6-5, 6-3. Lecuona Ramos followed with a solid performance at No. 4 singles, overcoming Gifvars 6-2, 6-3. Geiger contributed with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Chleboun at No. 5 singles, and Conwell secured a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Murphy at No. 6 singles.

The Vikings found some success at the top of the singles lineup. Pugachova earned a point for the hosts at No. 1 singles by defeating Kalinowska 6-1, 6-2, and Dudas also secured a win for North Park at No. 3 singles, edging out Salcedo 6-4, 7-6. Despite these efforts, Illinois Tech's dominant performance in both doubles and singles led to a comprehensive win.
