NAPERVILLE, Ill. — Illinois Tech Track & Field opened its outdoor season with a strong showing at the North Central College 1st Chance Invite, highlighted by three event victories, multiple podium finishes, and several updates to the program's record book.

"A great start to our outdoor season as we come off a 4-week break for the team from competition," said Head Coach Tyler McQuality. "The outdoor season always goes by fast, so I was pleased to see the results we had as we look to be at our absolute best in the coming weeks heading into the Outdoor Conference championships."

The Scarlet Hawks saw immediate success in the sprints, where Carson Owens delivered a standout performance, placing second in the men's 200 meters (22.23) and third in the 100 meters (10.93). His efforts move him to No. 2 all-time in the men's 100 meters and further establish his place on the program leaderboard in the 200 meters. Enoch Asare also made his mark, moving to No. 7 all-time in the men's 100 meters.

On the women's side, Zoe Turner led the way with a first-place finish in the 200 meters (25.84) and a third-place effort in the 400 meters (59.31). Her performances now rank her No. 2 all-time in both the women's 200 meters and 400 meters.

"It's never easy to sprint outdoors early in the season, but we brought high spirits and good efforts across the board," said Sprints Coach Brendan Batliner. "As the temperatures rise and our training continues to sharpen, we're looking forward to a great outdoors season."

In the field events, the Hawks continued to build on their indoor season momentum with multiple record book changes. Olivia Jameson claimed first in the women's high jump (1.59m), while Annika McKown's clearance of 1.54m earned her third place in the meet and moved her to No. 3 all-time in program history.

Kailey Nicholas delivered a historic performance in the triple jump, placing second with a mark of 10.85m while breaking the school record in the event. In the pole vault, Olivia McMath also etched her name into the record book with a new school record performance.

"Great weather and great jumps this weekend! Our efforts to build technique in the indoor season are starting to pay dividends," said Jumps Coach Sai Valluri. "Looking forward to seeing what the jumpers can achieve in the next few weeks."

The throws group added to the record book as well, led by Isaiah John's ninth-place finish in the hammer throw (42.32m), which moves him to No. 3 all-time in program history. D'Andre De La Fuente also climbed the ranks, now sitting No. 6 all-time in the men's hammer throw.

"Solid opening effort by our throwers for the opening meet!" said Throws Coach Lucas Taylor. "Isaiah and Dre both PR'd in hammer, with Hunter having a solid effort while learning a new shot-put technique."

Additional performances included Isabelle Pullen's 10th-place finish in the women's 800 meters (2:31.47), along with efforts in distance and field events that rounded out a well-balanced team showing.

With early-season momentum and multiple record book updates already in place, Illinois Tech now turns its attention to the Wheaton College Invite as the team continues to sharpen the outdoor season ahead.
