Women's Tennis Returns To Action In Home Loss to UW-Stevens Point

Chicago, Ill. — Playing their first match since their NACC regular season finale on October 10th, The Illinois Tech Women's Tennis team (8-2) faced a tough match against UW-Stevens Point (17-3) on Sunday at the XS Tennis Center, ending with a 0-7 scoreline. Despite the overall loss, Illinois Tech showcased resilience with a victory at the No. 1 doubles spot.

How It Happened

Illinois Tech put up a fight in doubles, with Martyna Kalinowska and Thea Salcedo pulling off a 7-5 win at the top doubles position against Chloe Regal and Annie Wierzbicki. However, UW-Stevens Point claimed the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Brooklynn Steier and Allie Brosteau edged out Maia Lecuona Ramos and Maddalena Dumangane 6-4, while Tristin Jantz and Ellie Aitken overcame Angelica Conwell and Paige Geiger 6-3.

In singles play, the Pointers showed their strength, starting with Chloe Regal's 6-3, 6-2 win over Kalinowska at No. 1 singles. Tristin Jantz added another point with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Dumangane at No. 2 singles, and Annie Wierzbicki secured a 6-1, 6-2 result against Salcedo at No. 3 singles.

Ellie Aitken clinched the match for UW-Stevens Point at No. 4 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Lecuona Ramos. Allie Brosteau followed with a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Geiger at No. 5 singles, and Brooklynn Steier completed the sweep with a commanding 6-0, 6-1 win over Conwell at No. 6 singles.
