Women's Tennis Falls To Carroll University In Final Tuneup Before NACC Tournament

WAUKESHA, Wis. — In their final match before the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament later this week, the Illinois Tech Women's Tennis (9-9) fell to Carroll University (10-10) 6-1 on Sunday. Illinois Tech secured its lone point with a victory at the No. 4 singles position by Maia Lecouna Ramos.

The Scarlet Hawks will await the outcome of Monday's NACC quarterfinal matches to determine who their opponent will be in their semifinal match scheduled for Thursday, April 30th at XS Tennis Center.

How It Happened

Illinois Tech dropped the doubles point to Carroll, with the hosts securing victories across all three courts. At No. 1 doubles, Thea Salcedo and Martyna Kalinowska fell to Aalaiya Jacklin and Nawal Souki, 6-7(4). No. 2 doubles saw Maia Lecuona Ramos and Maddalena Dumangane defeated by Natasa Pupovac and Mia Franke, 4-6. At No. 3 doubles, Paige Geiger and Angelica Conwell were bested by Makayla Counsell and Katherine Trifilio, 3-6.

In singles competition, the Pioneers continued their dominance, winning five of the six matches. At No. 1 singles, Kalinowska was edged out by Natasa Pupovac, 1-6, 6-1, 0-1 (7-10). Carroll's Katherine Trifilio then claimed No. 2 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Dumangane. Salcedo was defeated 1-6, 3-6 by Mia Franke at No. 3 singles, while Angelica Conwell fell to Makayla Counsell at No. 5 singles, 2-6, 0-6. Leah Guest was overpowered by Erin Horzewski at No. 6 singles, 1-6, 0-6.

Illinois Tech's sole singles victory came from Maia Lecuona Ramos at No. 4 singles, where she overcame Aalaiya Jacklin in a three-set battle, 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7). Despite this effort, Carroll secured a decisive 6-1 victory in the dual match.
