Halftime Lead Not Enough As Women's Soccer Falls At North Central

Naperville, Ill. — Women's Soccer lost to North Central 3-1 on Tuesday. The Scarlet Hawks led 1-0 at halftime, but North Central (IL) scored all three of its goals after the break. The Scarlet Hawks are 0-1-0 overall. North Central is 1-0-0 overall.

How it Happened
The Scarlet Hawks turned their early pressure into the opening goal, with Tvesa Vathulya scoring at 2:12 after Eva Narvarte had already recorded a shot in the first minute. The Scarlet Hawks kept pressing with a corner kick in the seventh minute, an Olivia Roy shot shortly after and two more attempts at 15:06, including a Leyna Yonehara strike off the top woodwork. North Central  pushed back later in the half, but Kayla Hampton made three saves, including two during a stretch from 32:08 to 33:18 as the Scarlet Hawks defended multiple shots and corners. Kayla Thomas added a late shot on goal in the 43rd minute, and the Scarlet Hawks carried a 1-0 lead into halftime.

The Scarlet Hawks were held off the scoreboard in the second half while North Central  scored three times. Earlier, the Scarlet Hawks defended through early pressure that included a Kara Waishwell shot, two North Central  corners and a Carly Campbell attempt before Madison DeVriendt tied the match at 1-1 at 55:23. Hampton saved a North Central  shot in the 62nd minute, and the Scarlet Hawks soon generated chances through Hannah Ramos, whose 66:08 shot was saved, and Leena Almeqbeli, whose attempt went high at 66:23. North Central went in front 2-1 on Lily Mayer's goal at 70:38, but the Scarlet Hawks created another look when Sophia Guese put a shot on goal at 71:19. Hampton added a save on Jordan Lange at 71:48 before Lange converted a penalty kick at 72:40, and the Scarlet Hawks earned a late corner at 89:43 before the match ended in a 3-1 loss.
