Chicago, Ill. — Women's Soccer continues their NACC dominance by defeating Concordia Chicago 6-0 on Wednesday night. The Scarlet Hawks finished with a 36-1 shot advantage, including a 25-1 margin in the second half. The Scarlet Hawks are 5-3-0 overall and 3-0-0 in conference play. The Cougars are 2-5-1 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play.
How It Happened
The Scarlet Hawks went in front at 2:18 when
Leena Almeqbeli scored off an assist from
Tvesa Vathulya. The pressure continued after the opening goal, with Almeqbeli hitting the top woodwork at 15:29, the Scarlet Hawks earning corner kicks at 17:28 and 23:25, and Naomi Gonzales saving attempts from Vathulya,
Kayla Frassinelli and Vathulya again during the stretch. The Scarlet Hawks kept creating chances late in the half, including
Taylor Hernandez hitting the top woodwork at 40:20 and
Gabrielle West putting a shot on frame at 43:26. Despite the heavy pressure it was just a 1-0 half-time lead.
In the second half, the Scarlet Hawks carried their attack forward and got rewarded. The pressure continued with a Vathulya shot saved at 47:06, two
Emma Conway attempts and a corner before
Kayla Thomas scored from
Eva Narvarte at 52:20 to make it 2-0. The Cougars put a shot wide at 51:22, but the Scarlet Hawks continued the scoring run as Vathulya scored at 54:46 and Thomas finished a rebound opportunity giving
Grace Yager an assist at 56:04 for a 4-0 lead. Thomas added another goal from Vathulya at 65:56, and Narvarte scored off Vathulya's second assist of the half at 71:29 to push the score to 6-0. The Scarlet Hawks kept generating chances over the final 16 minutes, forcing multiple impressive Katelyn Wagner saves, earning three corners and hitting the woodwork on a Hernandez shot at 89:31 before closing out the 6-0 win.
