River Forest, Ill. — Men's Soccer defeated Concordia Chicago 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon. The Scarlet Hawks scored twice in the first half and finished with a 17-5 shot advantage, including 10-3 in shots on goal. Illinois Tech is 5-3-0 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play. The Cougars are 2-4-1 overall and 1-2-0 in conference play.
How It Happened
Illinois Tech generated early pressure with five shots and a corner in the opening 11 minutes, including saved attempts from
Adrian Cogolludo,
Tomas Rebelatto and
Cal Graham, while
David Rodriguez stopped the Cougars' early look on frame. The half stayed scoreless through a foul-heavy opening stretch and later chances from
Zach Skiba, Graham,
Carson Floyd and
Darii Kishchak, before the Cougars produced a corner and a saved shot in the 30th minute. The Scarlet Hawks broke through at 30:59 when
Logan Olree scored off an assist from Cogolludo, and Cogolludo added a penalty-kick goal at 33:54 as Illinois Tech carried a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Already ahead 2-0 early in the second half, the Scarlet Hawks earned corner kicks at 47:52 and 48:34 around a Graham shot, but the stretch gave way to a run of fouls that included a yellow card to
Theo Balea at 51:58. The Cougars generated chances through the middle of the half, with Rodriguez saving an Alexander Barrera shot at 56:32 before another Cougars attempt went wide in the 68th minute. After a Cougars yellow card at 73:50,
Paul Balea scored at 73:52 to extend Illinois Tech's lead to 3-0, and the Scarlet Hawks closed the half with a late corner and
Brennan Paradiso shot on goal before finishing off the 3-0 result.
