How it Happened
The Scarlet Hawks created the first on-frame chance of the first half when
Cal Graham put a shot on target at 11:24 set up by a
Tomas Rebelatto cross, which came right after an earlier
Paul Balea attempt that went wide. The middle of the half became physical, with fouls on both teams and a yellow card to Carthage's Adrian Atanassov at 19:30, before
Junior Pineda-Alcala and
Tomas Rebelatto generated back-to-back Scarlet Hawks shots and the Scarlet Hawks earned a corner kick. Carthage pushed back at 27:52, but
Colin Thomas saved Eli Schoffstall's shot and later stopped Juan Ramirez's attempt at 33:15, while Atanassov also sent a shot wide during that stretch. The Scarlet Hawks answered with a corner at 33:42 and a
Logan Olree shot saved by Owen Malinowski at 34:19, and the half finished scoreless.
After the break, the Scarlet Hawks opened the second half with sustained pressure, getting early shots from Pineda-Alcala, Graham, Rebelatto and
Adrian Cogolludo before Graham hit the woodwork and scored on his rebound at 53:39 to make it 1-0. Carthage put a shot on frame through Dennis Valle at 56:01, but
Colin Thomas saved it, and the Scarlet Hawks extended the lead at 59:03 when
Theo Balea scored on a header off an assist from Rebelatto. The Scarlet Hawks kept pushing with a corner at 61:04 and several more attempts before Carthage earned a corner at 74:52 during a foul-heavy stretch, then
Paul Balea scored with a glorious left footed strike set up by
Theo Balea at 78:14 to make it 3-0. The final minutes included more fouls, a yellow card to Olree at 87:30 and a late Carthage corner, but the Scarlet Hawks held the 3-0 score through the final whistle.
