One Final Meet Before NACC Championships For Track and Field

Zoe Turner of Illinois Tech Track & Field
Chicago, Ill. - It's one final regular season meet for the Illinois Tech track and field team today, as they travel to Elmhurst, Illinois this afternoon for the Elmhurst Track and Field Invitational, in advance of the NACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships next weekend.

Throwing events will kick off at 10:00 AM at Benedictine University, while all other events will take place at Elmhurst starting at 3:00 PM.

For the Scarlet Hawks, it's an opportunity to continue to build for the conference championships, as the team wants to be hitting their peak effort for next weekend.

The Hawks are coming off of their competition at the Don Church Invitational at Wheaton College last weekend, where the Hawks placed 8th and 11th in women's and men's performance respectively, albeit with a reduced number of contributors, as not all athletes suited up for the meet by design.

The Scarlet Hawks did have some notable performances coming out of the meet, however.
  • Olivia Jameson took first place in the women's high jump, with a jump of 1.60 meters.
  • Annika McKown placed seventh in the women's long jump with a leap of 4.86 meters.
  • Alexandra Peifer placed second in women's javelin with a throw of 33.37 meters.
  • Zach Barisa finished seventh in the men's 800 meter run with a time of 1:59.52.
Said Head Coach Tyler McQuality: "The team battled some chilly conditions and got what we needed going into the last two weeks, the 'business end' to our season. I am looking forward to one final tune up meet at Elmhurst to make the final preparations for the conference championships next week"

Assistant Coach Evan Balizado added: "We have one week left until Conference and we are rounding into form at the perfect time. My favorite moment from the meet came from the team lining up along the track to cheer on Nick Quigley in the 5000m. The support that we have for each other is unmatched!"
