RIVER FOREST, Ill. — Illinois Tech Women's Track & Field delivered a commanding performance earning the title of honorary Cougars at the Cougar Invitational, capturing the team title with 108 points and showcasing depth across sprints, distance, field events, and relays.
"The perfect tune-up meet for our team," said Head Coach Tyler McQuality. "So proud of our women's team for the win and the confidence it gives our team to go perform our best next week when it matters the most!"
Leading the way on the track, Zoe Turner sprinted to victory in the 200 meters with a time of 26.01, while Rachel Brettin controlled the 800 meters, winning in 2:24.50. Brettin's performance marked a personal best and moved her up to fourth all-time in the Illinois Tech record book. She also played a key role in the Scarlet Hawks' first-place 4x400 relay team alongside Turner, Isabelle Pullen, and Brianna Sorrillo, which finished in 4:24.75—good for seventh all-time in program history. Pullen added to the team's success with a third-place finish in the 800 meters (2:30.79), contributing valuable points.
In distance competition, Sophia Halama secured another victory for Illinois Tech, winning the 3000 meters in 11:31.49 and continuing the team's strong presence across all event groups.
The Scarlet Hawks also excelled in the field. Olivia Jameson claimed first place in the high jump with a clearance of 1.57 meters, while Annika McKown followed closely in second at 1.54 meters to complete a dominant one-two finish. Kailey Nicholas delivered a versatile performance, winning the 100-meter hurdles in 17.70—a mark that ranks third all-time in program history—while also adding runner-up finishes in both the long jump (4.92m) and triple jump (10.37m), along with a sixth-place finish in the javelin (18.33m).
"It was an outstanding day for our women's team as they took FIRST overall at the Cougar Invitational," said sprints coach Brendan Batliner. "Congrats to our event winners Kailey, Zoe, Rachel, Sophia, Olivia, and our 4x400 relay team."
Even with limited opportunities in the throws, the group continued to trend upward.
"On the women's side, our multis are starting to come into form in the javelin and shot put," added assistant coach Evan Balizado.
