Waverly, Iowa. - The Scarlet Hawks closed out the 2025 season with the NCAA DIII Midwest Regional Championships on Saturday November 15th at Wartburg College's Max XC Course.
The men's team placed 28th out of the 32 men's teams in the Midwest Region, and the women's team placed 27th out of 30 regional teams.
On the women's team senior Sophia Halama was the top finisher with a time of 24:54.7 and freshman Genesis De La Garza Moron closed off her season with 31:42.0, her 6th PR of the season!
On the men's team, senior Lane Regan was the top finisher, closing the race in 28:12.0 and freshman Benjamin Gaeta ran his 4th PR time this season with a 28:34.6!
Reflecting on this season and this meet Head Coach Tyler McQuality gives his final thoughts for the 2025 cross country season.
"I am extremely proud of our regional performance, and our season as a whole. We knew it was a rebuilding year with a lot of freshmen, and I am extremely optimistic about our future. We also owe a big debt of gratitude to our departing seniors, who have left an immense mark on our culture that will serve our program for the years to come"
As the Scarlet Hawks turn the page on the 2025 season, the team left Waverly with a clear sense of direction. A season defined by steady growth, emerging young talent, and the influence of its senior leaders sets out a promising foundation for the years ahead. With a short reset before winter training begins, the Hawks carry forward the momentum, lessons, and confidence gained throughout the fall. The program transitions into its next chapter focused, motivated, and ready to build on the progress forged this season.

The Scarlet Hawks have finished their season, and after some well needed recovery they will start back training for their winter sports. Coach McQuality will also get prepared for the 2026 Indoor Track and Field season.
