Chicago, Ill. -Â
Jack Lunn has been named the new head coach to lead the Illinois Tech men's and women's tennis programs.
Lunn comes to Illinois Tech by way of Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana, where Lunn helmed the men's tennis program since the 2022-23 season.
"I'm very excited about this opportunity to lead one of the premier Division III tennis programs in the Midwest and return home to Chicagoland," said Lunn. "I've been following the program at Illinois Tech since its inception (the first spring match of the Scarlet Hawks' inaugural men's season was played in February 2018 at Grinnell College, where Lunn played collegiately at the time) and I can't wait to build on the significant regional and national successes of those who came before me. I'm extremely thankful to Usha (Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics
Usha Gilmore)Â and the rest of the search committee for having faith in me to guide these programs into their respective next chapters."
"We are thrilled to welcome
Jack Lunn as the new head coach of our men's and women's tennis programs," said Gilmore. "Jack brings a passion for player development, a strong competitive background, and the vision to help our student-athletes succeed both on and off the court. I am confident that under his leadership, Illinois Tech Tennis will continue to grow and reach new heights."
Lunn takes over the reins of the tennis programs from former head coach Kris Powell, who in four seasons achieved four Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC)Â Tournament Championships and four NCAAÂ tournament appearances between the men's and women's programs. Powell was named an assistant coach for the Gonzaga University men's tennis team in August.
Lunn's collegiate head coaching career began in March of 2022, when he was named the head coach of the Earlham College men's tennis team after the program was reinstated following a two-year hiatus due to budget constraints arising from the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic. Lunn was charged with rebuilding the Quakers men's tennis program from the ground up. In three seasons at Earlham, Lunn achieved an overall record of 13-33, including an 11-11 overall record in the 2024-25 season and qualifying for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) postseason tournament.
Prior to arriving at Earlham, Lunn spent two years as a graduate assistant coach for the men's and women's tennis programs at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York.
Lunn played tennis collegiately at Grinnell College, where he amassed a collegiate record of 57-12, including a 45-4 ledger in team matches.
Lunn earned his undergraduate degree in History from Grinnell College in 2020, and his graduate degree in Leadership from St. Lawrence University in 2022.
Lunn is native to the Chicago area, born and raised in Lake Forest, Illinois and a graduate of Lake Forest High School. He is also a passionate fan of the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bears.
