Chicago, Ill. - The Scarlet Hawks competed for the second time with the Aurora Grand Prix on Saturday, January 25th The jumps and track athletes competed at the world class Dr. Conrad Worrill Track & Field Center while the throwers made their mark just down the road at The University of Chicago's Henry Crown Field House.
On the women's team Annaelle Mukash and Clara Pargett both climbed up the 60m leaderboard with an 8.16s landing her with the school record and 8.79s coming in 10th respectively. Mukash is also now 3rd overall on the 200m leaderboard with a 27.27s. Zoe Turner made her way to 2nd place on the 400m leaderboard with a 58.69s. Rounding out the track events, Isabelle Pullen ran a 2:31.99 800m, making her now 10th overall in school history. For the field events after jumping 1.54m in the High Jump, Annika McKown is now 4th overall. Kailey Nicholas long jumped 5.03m, putting her in 3rd place on the school record books. Last but certainly not least Maria Plencner threw a PR of 9.68m in Shot Put and is now 2nd overall!
On the Men's team Carson Owens took the 200m school record with a time of 22.55s. Evan Gorrell Pole Vaulted his way into 7th place overall with a height of 3.40m.
After a great day of track and field all the coaching staff were singing the Scarlet Hawk's praises!
"The team took advantage of a great opportunity to see great competition at a great facility" said head coach Tyler McQuality. "Another step forward across the board for our team in the process of this indoor season. Annika PR'ing in the High Jump for the first time since her first meet freshman year was another exciting highlight."
"We had some really strong performances on the distance team in our second meet," said distance coach Valerie Lending. "There was improvement across the board from the first meet. We know we can expect consistency from this group and I'm excited to see where the season takes us."
Jumps coach Sai Valluri saw great results, too.
"Great job by all the jumpers," said Valluri. "We're just getting started and the foundation we built in the off-season is already setting us up for some big jumps ahead."
"I'm really proud of our Pole Vaulters this week for dealing with the big fields and long wait times," said assistant coach Evan Balizado. "We are getting in the groove of competing and jumping higher each week."
Said sprints coach Brandan Batliner: "I want to recognize our women's team for some standout performances this weekend across all of our sprinting events. Annaelle, Clara, and Zoe achieved lifetime PRs in the 60m, 60m and 200m, and 400m races, respectively, a great sign of the season to come. Annika executed her hurdle technique with every step in the right spot in the 60m hurdles and set herself up for success in the weeks to come."
