Illinois Tech Men's Tennis Weekend Recap 4/18/26 - 4/19/26
Chicago, Ill. & De Pere, Wis. — Illinois Tech Men's Tennis had a successful weekend, first securing a 5-2 victory over Concordia Wisconsin (12-6, 3-3) on Saturday at XS Tennis, followed by a commanding 7-0 win against St. Norbert College (8-12, 4-2) on Sunday at the Green Bay Tennis Center. With the weekend sweep, the Scarlet Hawks clinched their sixth Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) regular season title in the last seven seasons. The Scarlet Hawks finish the regular season with a 12-5 record overall, and went a perfect 6-0 in NACC play. They earned the number one seed and first round bye in the conference postseason tournament, and will await their opponent for their May 1st semifinal match at XS Tennis Center.
Head Coach
Jack Lunn was happy how his team responded to the challenge of earning this conference title.
"I was very happy with how we were able to bring energy and support each other in a really tough road environment," said Lunn. "Doubles has been a big emphasis point for us and that came up huge today. We're very happy to have the regular season championship in hand but I know we won't be satisfied until we replicate this success in the tournament as well"
How It Happened
Against Concordia Wisconsin:
Illinois Tech swept the doubles matches to secure the doubles point with decisive victories across all three courts. At No. 3 doubles,
Tejas Sheth and
Pol Dueso Guell posted a 6-4 win over Gustavo Funo and Renan Botelho. Pedro Roca and
Hozumi Tada followed with a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles against Kristopher Greenhaw and Ryan Bilan. The No. 1 doubles match concluded with
Tanay Sharma and
Alexander Feher defeating Hayden Latus and Murilo Zeni, 6-4, completing the sweep.
In singles play, Illinois Tech extended its lead with
Tanay Sharma's straight-set win at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-2, over Hayden Latus. Feher then clinched the dual match for Illinois Tech with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles against Gustavo Funo, pushing the team score to 4-0. Dueso Guell added another point for Illinois Tech at No. 4 singles, defeating Ryan Bilan 6-1, 6-2. The Falcons claimed two singles matches, with Murilo Zeni edging Pedro Roca 7-5, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Renan Botelho winning by default at No. 5 singles over
Hozumi Tada.
Joseph Au closed the competition with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles against Kristopher Greenhaw, rounding out Illinois Tech's 5-2 victory.
Against St. Norbert College:
The Scarlet Hawks continued their strong performance, securing the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Pedro Roca and
Joseph Au clinched a 7-6(4) win over Ryan Garland and Nolan Pearson at No. 2 doubles, while
Pol Dueso Guell and
Tejas Sheth posted a 6-4 decision against Jackson Harpt and Owen McDonough at No. 3 doubles. The Green Knights took the match at No. 1 doubles with Brett Daniels and Charlie Keller edging
Tanay Sharma and
Alexander Feher, 7-6(8).
In singles play, Illinois Tech dominated, beginning with
Tanay Sharma's three-set victory at No. 1 singles over Brett Daniels, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8). Pedro Roca followed with a straight-sets win at No. 2 singles, defeating Jackson Harpt 6-4, 6-0.
Alexander Feher added another point at No. 3 singles, overcoming Charlie Keller 6-4, 6-1.
Pol Dueso Guell continued the momentum with a 7-5, 6-1 triumph at No. 4 singles against Ryan Garland.
Joseph Au secured a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 5 singles over Nolan Pearson.
Tejas Sheth completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles against Seth Kogutkiewicz, finalizing the Scarlet Hawks' commanding performance.
