Box Score Glendale, Wis. - After taking it on the chin in their two non-conference matches, Illinois Tech women's tennis was looking to get off on the right foot when they opened conference play at MSOE on Tuesday night. The Scarlet Hawks accomplished their goal, as they opened the defense of their NACC title from last season with a convincing 6-0 sweep of the Raiders at Nicolet High School.
The match was called just after 10:00pm when rain arrived during the last remaining singles match between the Hawks'
Martyna Kalinowska and MSOE's Sadie Dakay, forcing the number one singles match to be unfinished.
Illinois Tech is 1-2 overall and 1-0 in NACC play. The Raiders are 0-2 overall and 0-2 in conference.
How It Happened
Illinois Tech earned the doubles point after winning all three completed doubles matches.
Annaliese Kielmeyer and
Martyna Kalinowska defeated Sadie Dakay and Ana Clara Kamiyama 7-6(4) at No. 1 doubles,
Maia Lecuona Ramos and
Thea Salcedo beat Simona Sulminas and Shephania Gonzalez 6-0 at No. 2 and
Angelica Conwell and
Kira Lai topped Amelia Segelstrom and Autumn Thoresen 6-0 at No. 3.
With the doubles point in hand, the Scarlet Hawks added five completed singles wins. Kielmeyer defeated Shephania Gonzalez 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, Lecuona Ramos beat Simona Sulminas 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 and Salcedo won 6-0, 6-1 against Autumn Thoresen at No. 4.
Paige Geiger followed with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Isela Sandoval Luis at No. 5 singles, and Conwell defeated Mikaela Sellnow 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6. No. 1 singles was left unfinished between Kalinowska and Sadie Dakay, with Kalinowska down 2-6 and the second set at 6-6. Illinois Tech finished with a 6-0 dual victory over the Raiders.
