Chicago, Ill. - Competing in their second meet of the indoor season, Illinois Tech track and field saw three school records fall along with a host of new personal and season bests established at the Aurora Grand Prix this past Saturday at Gately Park.
New school records were established in the men's and women's 400 meters, as well as a new school record in the women's 4x400 meters relay.
Women's track and field finished in 7th place in the field of 15 teams, earning 23 team points. Men's track and field finished in 14th place with 3 team points.
Amelia Moseman set a new school record in the women's 400 meters with a time of 58.73 (track-adjusted time of 59.52), putting her atop the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) leader board for the event and into the top 50 qualifiers in NCAA Division III Women's Indoor Track and Field. Moseman finished in second place out of 24 total competitors in the meet event.
Peter Mayer, competing in just his second collegiate track and field meet, established a new school record in the men's 400 meters with a time of 50.71 (51.53), also putting him atop the NACC leader board for the event. Mayer finished 10th out of 43 competitors in the meet event.
The women's 4x400 meters relay team also set a new school record, with the quartet of Moseman,
Olivia Jameson,
Rachel Brettin and
Zoe Turner clocking in at 4:09.30(4:12.62), putting them in second place in the conference indoor standings for the event. The Scarlet Hawks took sixth place out of twelve teams in the relay event, and the time qualified among the top 50 in NCAA Division III Women's Indoor Track and Field on the season.
In field events, Jameson earned another first-place finish in the women's high jump with a leap of 1.59 meters, besting her season-opening jump of 1.58 meters from last week, and putting her into a three-way tie in the NACC standings for women's indoor high jump.
"I am happy with the growth we showed week-to-week and the results and records speak to that," said Head Coach
Tyler McQuality. "We keep building and working in the weeks to come as we march on towards the indoor conference championships."
"Amazing momentum from the Hawks sprinters as the season gets into full swing," said assistant coach
Brendan Batliner. "The team took advantage of the great facility to reach for new season and personal bests across the 60, 200, 400, and 4x400."
