Green Bay, Wis. – On Saturday, September 6th, Illinois Tech Cross Country competed at the Phoenix Open at Phoenix Alumni Cross Country Course at Shorewood Park, hosted by Wisconsin Green Bay.

The Scarlet Hawks continued the season, with the men's and women's teams taking 9th place. 

This race was the first full-length race for the men's and women's teams and a chance for them to compete at the 2025 NACC Conference Championship course.  

The first full length race of the season can be a tricky one for the Scarlet Hawks, especially the newcomers to the team who have never raced this distance before. That didn't stop freshman Brianna Sorrillo from climbing up to #21 on the Women's 6K leader board with a time of 25:18.9! After finishing her first 6K, Sorrillo described the experience, saying "that was probably one of the strongest races I've ran in cross country. The support of my coaches and teammates throughout the course really made my first 6k so much more achievable."  

Head Coach Tyler McQuality highlighted the long-term value of this meet.

"Our team got great experience on the NACC Championships course for November 1st," said McQuality. "I know this weekend will pay dividends to help us get to where we want to go come championship season"
