Chicago, Ill. - Kelly Hitchcock of women's lacrosse and Tyler Gutsfeld of baseball are the recipients of Scarlet Hawk of the Week honors for the week of April 13th.
Hitchcock, a graduate student midfielder and Mechanical Engineering major from Scottsdale, Arizona, had a stellar week defensively for the Scarlet Hawks, helping the team to back-to-back conference wins for the first time since 2022. Hitchcock finished the week with 20 draw controls, 10 ground balls and 4 caused turnovers. Hitchcock set a new Illinois Tech women's lacrosse single-game record with 13 draw controls in the team's senior night win against Beloit on Tuesday, while adding 3 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers. In Saturday's win at Lawrence, Hitchcock had 7 draw controls, 7 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers. In just 7 games played, Hitchcock has 59 draw controls for an 8.42 DC per game average(NACC leader is 4.93 per game). In the game at Beloit on Tuesday, Hitchcock reached 300 career draw controls, and finished with 323 for her career, another Illinois Tech women's lacrosse record.
Gutsfeld, a senior outfielder and Business and Engineering major from Simsbury, Connecticut, led the offensive effort last week as the Hawks went 2-2. Over 4 games played from April 13–19, Gutsfeld went 6-for-17, batting .353 with a .765 slugging percentage and a .400 on-base percentage. He drove in 9 runs and scored 6 times while recording 1 double and 2 home runs. His top performance came in a matchup against Concordia Chicago, where he went 2-for-4 with a home run and 6 RBIs. Gutsfeld also continued to add his name to the Illinois Tech Baseball record book as his single during game two versus Lakeland Saturday was his 200th hit as a Scarlet Hawk.
