Women's Soccer Opens NACC Play with Fifth Straight Win

Box Score

AURORA, Ill. - The Illinois Tech women's soccer (6-0-1, 1-0-0) team made a statement on Wednesday evening, dominating the Aurora University Spartans (1-4-1, 0-1-0) in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener (NACC) for both squads. Aurora, who finished third in the conference standings a season ago, was held to just five shots by the Tech defense as Hawks dominated the road win from start to finish.

How it Happened

  • It did not take long for the 10th-ranked team in the Central Region to seize control. On either team's first shot of the match, Tech's Anna Delseith scored for the second time this season in the fourth minute to give Tech a 1-0 lead.
  • After a shot by Katie Hoefgen in the seventh minute missed wide, she took a pass from Delseith seven minutes later and used it to score her eighth goal of the season.
  • Delseith was not finished. In the 54th minute, she opened the scoring in the second half after a cross to the front of the box from Juila Taliana.
  • While the Scarlet Hawks earned some corner kick opportunities down the stretch of the first half and early in the second half, it was a free kick chance that resulted in the team's final goal. After an Aurora foul, Taliana scored her third goal of 2018 to build the Scarlet Hawk lead to 3-0.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Delseith had arguably her best match as a Scarlet Hawk, scoring twice on two shots and adding an assist.
  • Taliana added a goal and an assist.
  • Hoefgen scored once on a team-high three shots.
  • The starting defense of Katherine Nishimoto, Kimi Casupang, Julia Honda, and Madison Harris were outstanding in front of Tech's keepers.
  • Catherine Klemp earned her fifth win, playing the first 70:15 of the shutout in net. Caitlin Kenoian played the final 19:45. Each made one save.

Stats to Know

  • Tech was consistent, taking six shots in each half to win the shots category 12-5.
  • AU committed twice as many fouls as Tech (16-8).
  • The Scarlet Hawks attempted four corner kicks compared to Aurora's one.

Up Next

  • The Scarlet Hawks will play at Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the team's second NACC match of the season.
