Baseball Powers to a Pair of Run Rule Wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Chicago, IL. — Illinois Tech Baseball (10-14, 5-5 NACC) locked down a pair of run rule wins with a 12-2 victory followed by a 17-7 win over Wisconsin Lutheran College (6-17, 2-8 NACC) at Ed Glancy Field on Wednesday. In the first game, the Scarlet Hawks scored six runs in the fifth inning, while in the second game, their offense tallied 25 hits, including three home runs, to seal the win in eight innings.

Game 1 Overview

The Scarlet Hawks secured a decisive 12-2 victory over the Warriors. The game remained scoreless in the first inning, despite both teams loading the bases. In the second inning, Illinois Tech took the lead when Luke Yachnin stole third and scored on a catcher's error, bringing the score to 1-0.

In the third inning, the Scarlet Hawks extended their lead to 3-1. Ryan Fostiak scored on a single by Matthew Reilly, followed by Philip Bentz scoring on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded.

Illinois Tech surged ahead in the fifth inning, with Quinton Riepl's double driving in two runs. A sacrifice fly by Fostiak added another run, and Tyler Gutsfeld capped the inning with a three-run homer, bringing the score to 9-2.

Game 2 Overview

The Scarlet Hawks scored four runs in the first inning, overcoming an early RBI single by the Warriors' Aiden Montgomery. Ryan Fostiak reached third on stolen base and error, setting up Philip Bentz's RBI single. Matthew Reilly doubled to drive in two more, and a balk allowed Logan Inman to score, giving Illinois Tech a 4-1 lead after the first inning.

In the second inning, the Warriors' Lincoln Thede hit a solo home run. Oliver Lopeztello scored on a walk and a fielder's choice brought another run in, tying the game at 4-4. Illinois Tech responded with an unearned run as Fostiak scored on Bentz's single, moving ahead 5-4 by the end of the second.

The fourth inning saw the Warriors regain the lead, 6-5, with RBIs from Ryan Pierquet and Colt Ratliff. However, Illinois Tech reclaimed control in the fifth inning. Reilly's two-run homer brought Inman home, putting Illinois Tech up 7-6.
