Hawks Drop One to Benedictine

Box Score

Chicago, IL – Illinois Tech women's lacrosse went on the road to take on the Benedictine University Eagles.  In its third game in just four days to open up the season, the Scarlet Hawks once again put out a great work rate but suffered a 15-2 defeat.

Hawks goalie Taylor Thompson was the story of the night for Tech as she made an incredible 21 saves in the effort.  She helped to keep it tight for the first 16 minutes of the game, holding the score at 2-1.  Gina Sutkus scored the first Illinois Tech goal on a free-position shot at 18:26, getting credit for her first career goal.  From there, Benedictine went on a 12-0 run to put the game out of reach for the Hawks. Chelsea Badiola did find the back of the cage late in the game for her third of the year, off of an assist from Florencia Carrerou.

Coach Kirk Lamitie spoke about his team's improvements and effort.  "They worked really hard out there and that's great, but we do need to get better with our stick work and fundamentals.  I'm challenging our team to work harder on these skills and in turn, we will have more success."

The Hawks get a well-deserved eight day break before they play next.  They will be on the road at Carthage College for a 7PM game on March 19th.
