DeLuca Leads Women's Lacrosse over Beloit

CHICAGO, Ill. -The Illinois Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team hosted Beloit College in a Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon. Tech controlled the game from start to finish, defeating the shorthanded Buccaneers 14-1.

How it Happened

  • It did not take long for the Scarlet Hawks to take control of the contest, as Tech scored just one minute and 16 seconds into the match courtsey of Alyssa DeLuca. It was the first of six DeLuca goals on the day.
  • Over the next two and a half minutes, both Isabella Rubin and DeLuca each tallied for the Scarlet Hawks. Tech led 3-0 before either team recorded a clearing attempt.
  • The lead continued to build, as the Scarlet Hawks scored five more times before the Buccaneers tallied with 30 seconds left to go in the first half. Tech led 8-1 at halftime.
  • The Scarlet Hawks offense slowed a tad in the second half, but the defense tightened. Illinos Tech did not allow a goal over the final 30 minutes.
  • Tech scored six goals in the final half, with the final goal coming from Rubin with 29 seconds remaining.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • DeLuca has had a specatular freshman season, but this may have been her best game of thus far. She scored six goals on eight shots, five of which came in the first half. She also tallied an assist and won four draw controls.
  • Rubin and Madison Meredith each had three goals a piece. They both also led Tech in ground balls (Rubin five, Meredith four).
  • Isabel Fitzpatrick-Meyers scored twice and led the team with three caused turnovers.
  • Abbie Reynolds recorded the victory.

Stats to Know

  • Tech won the ground ball battle 31-18.
  • Beloit committed 26 fouls compared to Tech's 16.
  • Tech outshot Beloit 30-4.
