Chicago, Ill. - While the Illinois Tech women's tennis season concluded in the second round of the Nothern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) on May 2nd at Edgewood, the Scarlet Hawks had a successful season, nonetheless.
The Hawks, after winning the conference tournament and their first NCAA tournament berth during the 2022 conference tournament, had been on the outside looking in the last two seasons, falling short of qualifying for the NACC tournament.
So a season in which they finished in 4th place in the fall regular season schedule, and advanced to the 2nd round of the conference tournament before falling to eventual champion Edgewood was a good sign of progress for the team.
"The women worked hard and not only made the NACC tournament but got to the semifinals," said Head Coach
Kris Powell. "Even with the losses in the regular season a lot of those matches could have gone in our favor."
2024-25 Season Record
- 6-10 Overall
- 5-4 NACC (4th place)
Scarlet Hawk Standouts - Season
- Martyna Kalinowska - the first-year player took over the number one singles position at the start of the season, and never looked back. Kalinowska went 11-4 overall in singles competition, including a 7-1 record in conference. For her performance in singles play, Kalinowska was named all-conference. In doubles play, Kalinowska and number one doubles partner Hannah Markiewicz finished 6-8 overall, with a 5-3 mark in NACC play.
- Ashley Dame - the senior also finished 11-4 overall in singles play out of the number four position, including going undefeated in conference at 8-0. Dame was also named all-conference in singles play. Dame was 5-7 overall in number three doubles competition, with a 4-3 record in conference.
- Hannah Markiewicz - Markiewicz completed her Scarlet Hawks career with a 7-8 record overall out of the number two singles position, with a 5-3 record in conference. Markiewicz was 6-8 overall in number one doubles play, including a 5-3 mark in conference, with doubles partner Kalinowska
2025-26 Season Outlook
The Scarlet Hawks will look to build off their 2024-25 season, but will have to do so without a couple key players, with both Dame and Markiewicz graduating this spring. However, the team will return first-year Kalinowska, junior
Angelica Conwell, and sophomore
Paige Geiger, adding much needed experience to a team that will be incorporating several new players next season.
"We are losing our seniors and captains so there will be new team dynamics going into the fall," said Powell. "So, we are excited for the newcomers, and we hope to continue to have a healthy team culture."
