Chicago, Ill. - Emily Wesoky has been named the new head coach of the Illinois Tech women's lacrosse program.
Wesoky takes over for
Kirk Lamitie, who was
previously promoted to the position of Assistant Director of Athletics.
"I am extremely excited to have Emily join our team," said Vice President - Director of Athletics Usha Gilmore. "She will bring great energy to our women's lacrosse program and we are looking forward to the season."
Wesoky becomes the third coach in the history of Illinois Tech women's lacrosse, replacing Lamitie after his second stint as head coach. Lamitie was the program's founder and first head coach, dating back to the 2014 inaugural season.
"I am so grateful for the opportunity to be the head coach of Illinois Tech's women's lacrosse team," said Wesoky. "I want to thank Usha Gilmore, Kirk Lamitie, and the search committee for believing in me to lead this program. It is a privilege to join an institution with such an outstanding academic reputation and an athletic department that has (had) great success. I am excited to build relationships with the extraordinary student athletes, mentor their personal growth, and help build a winning culture" Wesoky said.
Wesoky joins Illinois Tech after having played five years of NCAA Division I lacrosse; four years at Wagner College and one year at Rider University.
Wesoky graduated from Wagner College in 2023 with a B.A. in Sociology. During her senior year at Wagner she was second in points on the team, first on the team with assists and top 10 in the Northeast Conference in assists.
After graduating from Wagner College, Wesoky went to Rider University to play her fifth year and get her M.A. in Athletic Leadership and Sports Psychology. Wesoky was a captain and started all 17 games of the inaugural Division IÂ women's lacrosse program at Rider, where she helped build the culture and helped with the success from the ground up, on and off the field.
Wesoky has coached with nationally known clubs, including True Lacrosse, 3D Lacrosse, and Ultimate Lacrosse. She also plays for the Israel National Team, where she competed in the 2022 World Championships and 2024 European Championships, helping the team get sixth in the world, and second in Europe.Â
